The Return of 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'!
That children's contemporary classic 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' (penned by the great Ian Fleming) is set to fly again in a new trilogy by Frank Cottrell Boyce. The Millions author is bringing back the marvellous flying car alongside a contemporary family who are descendants of the original family in Flemings story. Macmillan will publish the first in the trilogy, titled 'Chitty Flies Again', in November 2011.
Frank Cottrell Boyce was approached by the Fleming family with the request to write the books. In the new story, the father of the family has been made redundant and is trying to reconstruct an old VW Camper Van. Unbeknownst to him, he uses the original Chitty's engine, which has an agenda of it's own, to restore itself. The black and white illustrations in the new series will be done by Joe Berger. (The original story was illustrated by John Burningham.)
